deben works by reading the transaction messages your bank already sends you, so it works with your bank wherever you are. Many banks, wallets, and payment services are recognised automatically, and any bank deben does not yet know can be taught in about a minute. Either way, your spending gets captured.
Two ways deben reads your bank
Recognised automatically
deben comes with built-in reading for a growing list of banks, wallets, and payment services. When yours is one of them, capture works the moment you switch it on, with nothing to set up. You simply review what deben read and confirm.
Teach deben any bank, once
If your bank is not built in yet, you keep the feature in full. The first time one of its messages arrives, you show deben how to read it once, pointing out the amount, the merchant, and the rest. From then on, deben reads every message from that bank on its own. It is a one-time step that takes about a minute, and it is why deben works with effectively any bank that sends transaction messages, not only the ones it already knows.
Countries and currencies
deben is not tied to one country. It reads any currency and follows your phone's language, currency, and time zone, so it fits wherever you bank. Its built-in automatic reading is tuned first for Egypt and the wider Middle East and North Africa, where banks and wallets notify their customers mostly by message, and that built-in coverage is expanding all the time. Everywhere else, the teach-once step means deben still captures your spending from day one.

We are actively adding more built-in banks and countries. If deben does not yet recognise your bank, or you would like your country prioritised, email support@debenapp.com with the bank or country name. There is no need to send any message, just the name. Requests genuinely shape what we build next, and we will let you know when built-in support lands.
It all stays on your phone
Teaching deben a bank happens entirely on your device. deben has no internet permission, so a reading rule, like everything else it holds, never leaves your phone. Adding your bank makes deben smarter for you, without sending anything to us or to anyone.
