Why deben

Long before banks, Egyptians weighed value in rings of copper called deben. A price was never shouted; it was weighed, calmly, where both sides could see the scale. That is this app: your money, weighed calmly, where only you can see the scale.

The blue is old, too. From that same copper, Egypt made the first synthetic pigment in history and painted the precious and the protected with it. And around a name worth protecting, scribes drew the shen, a closed loop of rope that meant: this is encircled, this endures.

deben is drawn the same way. It reads the messages you already get, entirely on your phone, and turns them into a quiet picture of what you have and what you can spend today. No account. No servers. No one watching. Your record is yours, encircled.

Is deben free?

Yes. deben is free to use, with no ads and no subscription. You install it once and it runs on your phone.

Is deben private? Does my data leave my phone?

deben is private by design. It has no account, no servers, and no internet permission at all, so nothing it holds can leave your phone. There are no ads, no analytics, and no trackers.

How does deben track my spending automatically?

deben reads the transaction messages you already receive from your bank, wallet, or payment service, right on your device, and works out the amount, merchant, date, and account. You review and confirm, so there is nothing to type. Its automatic reading is tuned first for banks in Egypt and the wider MENA region, and you can teach it a new bank in about a minute.

Does deben need an internet connection?

No. deben declares no internet permission and works fully offline. Capture, parsing, storage, and backup all happen on the device, and there is nothing to sync.

Can I use deben without letting it read my messages?

Yes. Message reading is optional and off by default. You can add expenses, income, and transfers by hand and use deben fully without granting SMS access.

Which devices does deben support?

deben is an Android app for phones, running on Android 8.0 and up. An iPhone version is not available yet.

What does "safe to spend today" mean?

It is deben's single honest number for the day. It takes your income, sets aside your bills and savings, subtracts what you have already spent, and shows what is left to spend today. It is a plan, not your bank balance.
