About deben

deben is a calm, private way to see your money. It reads the payment messages you already get, right on your phone, and turns them into one honest number: what you can safely spend today. No account, no servers, and nothing that ever leaves your device.

What deben is

deben is a personal money tracker for Android. It captures your spending automatically from the transaction messages your bank, wallet, or payment service already sends you, so there is nothing to type. You review what it read, correct anything that looks off, and it learns your banks over time. You can also add income, expenses, and transfers by hand. Everything it holds lives in one encrypted place on your phone.

Why we built it

Most money apps ask you to hand over your bank login and quietly send your spending to servers you cannot see. deben was built on the opposite belief: that seeing your money clearly should never cost you your privacy.

So deben has no account, runs no servers, and declares no internet permission at all. It cannot send your data anywhere, because it has no way to. That is not a setting you switch on. It is how the app is built, and it is the one promise everything else is measured against.

The name

Long before banks, Egyptians weighed value in rings of copper called deben. A price was never shouted; it was weighed, calmly, where both sides could see the scale. That is the app: your money, weighed calmly, where only you can see the scale. The periwinkle blue is old too. From that same copper, Egypt made the first synthetic pigment in history, and scribes drew the shen, a closed loop of rope, around a name worth protecting to mean: this is encircled, this endures. deben is drawn the same way, so your record stays yours, encircled.

Who makes deben

deben is designed and built by Tarek Raafat, an independent developer. It is made with care, kept honest about exactly how it works, and answerable to the people who use it. There are no investors to satisfy and no advertisers to serve, which is why it can afford to collect nothing at all.
